Our Story
The Wicozani (pronounced wee-cho'zah-nee), which translates to "the good way of life," reflects the deep cultural values and principles upheld by the Sicangu, an ancient Native American tribe intricately linked to their Lakota traditions and the land that they have cherished and respected for countless generations. Despite enduring various historic challenges and obstacles throughout their history, the rich and vibrant cultural heritage of the Sicangu people continues to thrive, woven into every single aspect of their daily lives and community practices. Yet, persistent poverty and ongoing economic strain pose significant threats to this invaluable heritage. That's precisely where we come in.
Lakota Women Business LLC was founded in 2021 on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation by a 100% Native American woman who possesses a powerful vision aimed at empowering local communities and preserving our unique cultural heritage. Rooted firmly in the traditions of the Lakota people, we recognized a pressing need to create opportunities that not only honor our ancestors but also address the modern challenges faced by our communities today.
Our journey took shape through a deep-seated passion for authentic Native American arts and crafts, coupled with a strong drive to deliver exceptional consulting and project management services. By fostering meaningful partnerships and identifying growth opportunities, we aspire to bridge the gap that exists between tradition and progress, ensuring that both can coexist harmoniously.
Each piece we offer and every project we undertake reflects our unwavering dedication to cultural preservation, economic empowerment, and sustainability. Through our work, we strive to inspire a deeper appreciation for Native American culture while creating significant and lasting impacts for future generations.
Cultural Preservation through Arts and Crafts:
Preserving Sicangu Lakota culture and craftsmanship is essential for maintaining indigenous heritage and identity. This preservation transmits traditional knowledge and skills across generations, honoring the Sicangu Lakota's history and resilience while fostering community pride. Promoting Native American craftsmanship also supports economic development, creating opportunities for artisans and ensuring their unique artistic expressions thrive. By selling handmade items, we support local artists, create jobs, and keep cultural traditions alive.
